BIMat Student Research Earns First Prize Award at National Educators' Workshop

Kevin Henderson, a student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill was recently awarded First Prize in a poster competition (Undergraduate Student category) held in conjunction with the 20th Annual National Educators' Workshop on October 16-19. His poster on Biologically-Derived, Non-Planar, Microlens Arrays reviewed important results of work he conducted under the direction of UNC faculty John Papanikolas and Ed Samulski as part of comprehensive BIMat-supported research at the university. Kevin's work was also featured in a plenary session presentation at the workshop as representative of the high-quality research being done by both undergraduate and graduate students from the universities participating in the competition.

The theme for this year's National Educators' Workshop was Nano/Bio Science and Technology Education for the 21st Century. The event, held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was co-sponsored by numerous organizations, including NASA, NIST, the ASM Materials Education Council, and the BIMat Institute.
